What is H.A.V.E.N.?

H.A.V.E.N. (Huddersfield Abuse and Violence Education Network) is part of a project by the Students’ Union to improve understanding of sexual and domestic abuse, in order to create a safer environment for students on campus. We’ve worked with Pennine Domestic Violence Group, a number of other local charities and academics from within our institution to create guides about personal safety and responsibility that are accessible to all students past and present! This project developed from a recognition of the need for sexual and domestic abuse education in further academic institutions and includes a continuously developing self-help guide collection.

According to a recent study, 62% of students and graduates have experienced sexual violence* (as per the definition used by Rape Crisis UK). This is a serious issue on campuses all around the UK, which we readily acknowledge as a Union, this is why we have improved our available support and resources for survivors.
