Library

All current students have free access to the University's library, which includes a wealth of materials. As a result, there is no need to purchase any books unless it personally interests you. Aside from online resources, books, journals, and printing services, the library provides free laptop loans to students! Isn't that fantastic? Don't worry if you can't bring your laptop with you; we've got you covered!

International Office

As an international student, the international office will most likely manage your problems and inquiries; therefore, it is critical that you are aware of their location as well as their contact information; here is the link to find these details: https://www.hud.ac.uk/international/contact-us/

Careers and employability

One of the most significant and supportive departments at the University is our careers and employability department. Whether you're thinking about changing your course or seeking for a part-time work, preparing for an interview, or simply concerned about your future career prospects, this great team of specialists will provide you with support and guidance. I did make a video with some tips that have always been helpful in obtaining and keeping a job while at university, which you can see here:

I would strongly advise you to thoroughly review the link below and identify the support that you would like to get from them; there are numerous resources available:

Wellbeing and disability

I wish I had known about this service sooner because it helps you manage your wellbeing, which may become unbalanced with so much going on in your life and with your studies. The wellbeing team provides expert advice and help for difficulties that may be interfering with your education. They provide a wide range of services, all of which are confidential, so you can open up to them about anything you wouldn't feel comfortable sharing with your family or friends.

Remember to register yourself with them when you visit them for the first time. You can do this by via iPoint (iPoint@hud.ac.uk or 01484471001) or using this link

https://wds1.hud.ac.uk/TitaniumWeb/

A list of different services (a few listed below) available can be found here https://students.hud.ac.uk/help/wellbeing/

  • Togetherall: 24/7 online support
  • Samaritans: works 24/7 to make sure there's always someone there for anyone who needs someone
  • Share and Support: University of Huddersfield's dedicated online reporting tool.

iPoint

iPoint is the University's Information Hub; they're your first point of contact if you're ever lost on campus and need help finding something. They also assist students in filling out forms, registering for services, and other processes such as enrolment. When you require a council tax exemption letter or have misplaced your student ID card, you should contact iPoint. You can learn more about their services by clicking on the following link: https://students.hud.ac.uk/help/ipoint/

Immigration and Visas

All current and potential international students have access to a dedicated department on campus that provides visa help and immigration. You can learn more about them here

Safety and Security

For the majority of international students, this will be their first time living in a foreign country. Do you feel comfortable if you know nothing or have little information about the area and you're out on a night out or simply out for a walk? You must remain vigilant at all times. Always look after yourself and be aware of where you can receive help if something unexpected happens, regardless of who you're with. Incidents involving your safety are never minor, and it is never acceptable to ignore them. You can always seek support, whether it's for hate incidents, bullying, harassment, discrimination, sexual assault, or anything else. The following website gives thorough information on where you can obtain help

Every school at the University will have its own designated safety and guidance officer with whom you can confidentially address your concerns and difficulties. You can acquire their contact information through your personal tutor or the school's administrative centre. Furthermore, be aware of our Campus safety officer, PC Philip Hardy, who can be reached via their contact information (displayed permanently outside the office)

OR visit him directly; his office is based across from the Library outside the Schwann Building lift and operates an open-door policy. Besides, you can always access the security hub at the front of the Harold Wilson Building, also called as the University Reception or call 2222.

Canteen and café

The most enjoyable facet: the food! Every university school will have its own canteen or cafeteria. As a result, you'll be able to quickly grab something in between classes. On campus, we also have our SU shop, where I found practically everything I needed while on university campus, including the cheapest coffee I've ever had. We also have an international kitchen that prepares the most delectable meals for us every day. Both are on the fourth floor of the Student Central building. More information on takeout and shops can be found in the previous section, which you may find useful.
