Celebrating standout societies and clubs at Huddersfield Students’ Union
Each month, we celebrate student groups who go above and beyond to create welcoming communities, deliver inspiring events, and make a positive impact on campus.
From cultural celebrations and academic innovation to sporting success, these groups truly stood out this month.
This formidable committee have introduced themselves at International Office events and have begun organising their own independent events with the Students’ Union. They have a strong understanding of SU procedures and financial processes, ensuring every event runs smoothly.
As the committee put it, "Last Thursday, we held our first event and it was a great success. Get to Know Libya Night welcomed over 50 people, most of whom stayed for the full afternoon. We delivered presentations on Libyan history, key locations, traditional food, clothing, and more!"
The event included mini tasting breaks, featuring Ka’ak, Magrood, and Ghriaba, each paired with traditional Libyan tea or qahwa. A Kahoot quiz concluded the evening, adding a competitive and interactive element, while a mannequin borrowed from the Barbara Hepworth building displayed traditional clothing, creating a strong visual focus.
Attendees came from a diverse range of backgrounds, including Algerian, Moroccan, Libyan, Sudanese, Nigerian, Pakistani, Indian, Syrian, and Omani students. Feedback praised the welcoming atmosphere and the opportunity to socialise and make new friends.
The society also held a bake sale in Student Central, raising over £800 for MATW projects.
This unassuming committee have quietly and regularly been holding events and training for their members since September. They actively participate in SU events and have introduced payment systems to fund 3D printing services and society growth.
Their organisation, reliability, and contribution make them an integral part of the Students’ Union community. Well done, 3D Printing Society!
Huddersfield Boxing began 2026 strongly, with two students—Alfie Lumsden and Younis Qudus—competing at the prestigious BUCS Boxing Championships in Portsmouth. Alfie claimed Silver in the 14+ bout U70kg category, while Younis secured Gold in the 14+ bout U75kg category.
Despite entering only two competitors, Huddersfield finished an impressive 7th overall in the Men’s Team Results, highlighting the quality of the programme and the club’s partnership with Gladiators Gym.
Beyond BUCS competition, Zaki and the club have worked hard to grow training sessions and social opportunities for new members. Joel has also played a vital role, working closely with the Students’ Union and the Boxing Club to prepare athletes for competition whilst balancing his responsibilities as a student coach at the gym. It was unfortunate that injury ruled him out this year, as his ability warranted a third medal for our students.
Cyber Security Society have been working tirelessly on their flagship event, HudHack 2026, maintaining strong communication with the SU and collaborating with staff in Computing and Engineering.
They have secured sponsorship, partnered with Hackathons UK, and developed a dedicated event website. HudHack prioritises inclusivity, welcoming students from all courses and skill levels to collaborate, learn, and build practical projects in a supportive, team-based environment.
Participants are encouraged to contribute using their own strengths—coding, design, data analysis, ideation, or teamwork—making this an event not to be missed.
