Hi everyone, My name is Abdulrahim — but please call me Abdul. I completed my undergraduate degree in Computer Science at the University of Huddersfield, and I'm currently pursuing postgraduate studies in Business Intelligence and Analytics here as well. You might have seen me around as part of the Student Union, whether in the shop or helping out at events. I'm always happy to have a chat, so feel free to say hi! I'm also the founder of the Futsal Club — and, of course, the number one choice goalkeeper 😄 Looking forward to getting to know you all!
I've had the privilege of experiencing everything the university has to offer — both as an undergraduate and now as a postgraduate student. Because of this, I genuinely understand what you're going through — the challenges, the pressures, and the expectations. I've been in your position, and I still am. My aim is to ensure that every student feels included, represented, and valued. I want to create an environment where everyone's voice matters and where your overall university experience is continuously improving. I believe I should be your first choice for Equity Officer because I'm confident in representing you and speaking directly to the university about the issues that truly affect students. I will listen, take action, and work to make meaningful change.
If I am elected, I want to work with all student groups to ensure everyone has a smooth and positive experience from the very start of their journey. My priority will be supporting students with disabilities by addressing the challenges they face on campus, particularly around accessibility and moving between buildings. I also want to tackle issues such as online bullying, especially towards female students, ensuring that all students feel safe, respected, and supported both on campus and online. In addition, I aim to work towards improving attendance monitoring systems so students can receive better support, early intervention where needed, and clearer communication regarding their progress.
Hi, I'm Dominic, a final year student studying computer science with games programming. I'm the vice president of one of the larger societies, being our very own dance society, an active member of the basketball team, and a previous member of the newly formed ice-skating society. I enjoy playing/making games, seeing people succeed and be happy, and socialising.
While at university, I have worked with and interacted with people from many different backgrounds and strains of life, each teaching me something new. I believe my ability to be understanding and empathetic toward someone's situation would provide a good starting point to ensure everyone within the university can get the best possible experience from it.
Should I get equity, I intend to carry on the charity work that has grown over the past few years, make the religious and global societies more visible and represented. I also want to provide events and dedicated social spaces for commuters, aiming to make them feel less isolated within the university. Finally, I plan to continue the work done to eliminate discrimination against all groups of people.
@mia4equity Hi I'm Mia! A final year Media Studies Student. I am a queer neurodivergent woman from North Wales. I am currently an active committee member of the Astrology and Spirituality society helping with their digital marketing :)
I represent a large minority of students at the University. My experiences with dealing with mental health/neurodiversity, and being a part of the disability service at University has allowed me a greater understanding of how the system works, and where it lacks. Also as a member of a society it allows me the understanding of the social networks and the areas that need improvements. These aspects enable me to be able to place myself in a lot of peoples shoes and be able to relate to more people.
Buddy system - Alleviate stress of making friends. More support for neurodiverse and chronic illness students - more safe spaces and support from well-being. More LGBTQI+ Inclusivity - events designated for the community. Better safety for student Nights Out - Safety Bus/Volunteers. Support System for issues students deal with e.g. SA, drug abuse, grief. More well-being support due to the current political climate.
