Understanding UK Culture

Culturally, England is a highly hospitable country, with people from all over the world, and the British people like learning about diverse cultures and origins. Personally, my interactions with the locals have been fantastic, whether at university, on trips, at work, or even if it is shopping in a local shop. Nonetheless, be aware of cultural differences and ensure that you follow them. For example, having simple etiquette such as saying, 'thank you' and 'please' whenever appropriate would greatly assist you in starting a conversation with those around you. If you're not sure about anything or if you're unsure, don't do it. If you make a mistake, ask for help from others to correct and educate you. It's fine to make mistakes for the first time, but it's also critical to learn from them and not repeat them.

Homesickness

Some students may relish their independence, while others will miss home. If you stay alone, things can get worse. Look for opportunities to meet friends, be socially active, and get involved in activities that will keep you occupied. Some students (like me!) prefer their own company, which is OK; however, you must eventually get out and chat to people, discuss your feelings, and do something exciting! Again, this is something, you should keep an eye on Students' Union website for, since the Advice Centre is in the process of operating a new listening service, and you can learn more about it here https://www.huddersfieldsu.co.uk/advice

Make the most of your time in the United Kingdom. This does not imply that you must go above and beyond to fit into someone else's shoes, but it is always fun to try. Pick something that makes you both joyful and brings you calm.
