Celebrating standout societies and clubs at Huddersfield Students’ Union

K-Wave started the year strong by creating Welcome Videos featuring SU staff and over 50 societies introducing themselves in Korean. Their collaboration with Ai Tea café provided a relaxed social for students, and their Chuseok celebration transformed Student Central with messages of gratitude and cultural activities. K-Wave is continuing to build inclusive collaborations with other societies.
The Dance Society has achieved their highest membership in years with 89 members (42 paid, 45 community). Taster sessions and their Welcome Social were full of energy. They’ve organised two competitions (Leeds and LJMU), hosted a bingo night fundraiser, held a sober social meet and greet, and helped at the University Open Day to welcome new members.
NSS have been busy connecting students and celebrating culture. They attended the Freshers’ Fair, Meet the Global Societies, created a WhatsApp group for new members, and partnered with the International Office to host a vibrant Nigerian Independence Day celebration.
OT Society started the year supporting student wellbeing. They introduced themselves during Freshers Week, ran a Welcome Wellbeing session with watercolour cards and open discussions, and are planning an online games night, guest speaker events, and their first WoW session of the year.
As a newly formed sports club, Ice Skating Club made a splash at Welcome Fair with over 100 students signing up. They’ve hosted two fully booked taster sessions at Bradford Ice Rink and have been actively planning socials, budgets, and training for the year ahead. Their enthusiasm is setting them up for an exciting first year!
