Huddersfield Students' Union (SU) is committed to improving your student experience. A key part of this is the Accountability Panel (AP). If you're curious about what it involves and how it works, this blog will explain the Huddersfield Students' Union Accountability Panel, its role, and why it matters to you as a student.

What is the Huddersfield Students' Union Accountability Panel?

The AP acts as a watchdog within the SU, helping students monitor their elected representatives. These Officers, including the SU President, Education Officer, Equalities Officer, and Activities Officer, make decisions that impact students, and the AP ensures they are held accountable for their actions.

Objectives of the Panel

The AP’s main purpose is to ensure that elected Officers effectively fulfill their roles and serve the best interests of students. Here’s how they do it:

  • Holding Officers Accountable: The panel asks tough questions, reviews the Officers' actions, and assesses their performance.
  • Ensuring Inclusivity: The panel ensures that the interests of all students, regardless of background, are considered and taken seriously.
  • Providing Constructive Feedback: Panel members critically assess the Officers’ work, highlighting successes and suggesting areas for improvement.

Who Makes Up the Panel?

The Accountability Panel consists of:

  • Engaged Students: Active members of societies, academic representatives, and network members who understand student needs.
  • External Member: An impartial individual not affiliated with the Officers to ensure fairness in the process.
  • Chairperson: The Chairperson leads discussions, ensuring everything runs smoothly and impartially.

Have a Question for the Officers?

If you have a question for the Officers that you'd like the AP to ask, please submit it! Your input is invaluable for holding the Officers accountable and addressing your concerns. You can submit your questions through our online form: Submit Your Question.

Examples of Questions You Might Ask:

  • What are your plans to improve student engagement in extracurricular activities?
  • How will you address the concerns regarding campus safety?

The Accountability Panel ensures that your Students' Union remains transparent, responsive, and focused on enhancing your student experience. Through these panels, your voice is heard, and your Union stays accountable to you.
