This idea has been fed into the 'Parent and Study - Support the First Year' Idea. Our Equity Officer and Head of Student Experience are working on implementing the idea mentioned and will use considertaions from this idea to help them.
Student carers juggle their studies with significant responsibilities at home. A Student Carer Support Scheme would provide practical and emotional support to help them succeed.
Key Features:
- Priority Timetabling – Condensed schedules to minimise time spent on campus.
- Flexible Deadlines & Remote Study Options – Ensuring that caring responsibilities don’t force students to drop out.
- Dedicated Carers’ Hub – A space to study, rest, and connect with other carers.
- Financial Support & Travel Bursaries – Funding to cover transport costs or emergency expenses.
- Wellbeing & Counselling Services – Mental health support tailored to the challenges of being a student carer.
Impact:
- Helps carers balance their education and responsibilities.
- Reduces the risk of burnout and mental health struggles.
- Creates a stronger support network and sense of belonging.
