My proposal is to extend the opening hours of all café hubs across the University of Huddersfield campus because the current operating hours do not match actual student timetables or study habits. Closing the smaller hubs in individual school buildings at 2:00 PM is completely impractical as it happens right after lunch, meaning students cannot grab a proper tea or coffee to sustain them through afternoon classes. Furthermore, closing the main hub in Student Central at 4:00 PM leaves students who have 5:00 PM lectures completely stranded with no high-quality options on campus, and low-quality vending machines are simply not an adequate alternative.

By keeping the school building cafés open until at least 4:00 PM and the Student Central hub open until 6:00 PM, the university can ensure students stay alert, focused, and energised for late-day learning. This change will also foster a much more vibrant campus community, encouraging students to stay on campus to study together rather than heading straight home or going off-campus to high street coffee shops. Crucially, extending these hours creates a fantastic opportunity for the university to increase its own revenue while creating more on-campus jobs, allowing them to hire more people and possibly Huddersfield students for flexible part-time shifts. This is a win-win that directly supports student academic success, wellbeing, and employment livelihoods.
