Let’s join the growing movement for Meat-Free Universities, (inspired by Ed Winters’ campaign), by introducing Meat-Free Mondays (and ideally more days) across campus food outlets. Even one day a week without meat can dramatically cut our carbon footprint, save precious water and land resources, and reduce animal suffering.
This relatively simple step supports healthier eating, expands plant-based options for all students, and shows our university’s commitment to climate action. By adopting Meat-Free Mondays, we can be part of a wider positive change—and lead by example in building a more sustainable future.

I think this would work well in international kitchen and possibly other food outlets, it might be more difficult to implement in the SU shop but I’d be happy to see any steps taken in this direction :)
This would be good encouragement to go to campus. I usually avoid the food because there isn’t much choice for vegans
Im allergic to certain types of meat so more food friendly to my stomach is always welcome
Whilst I am all for the idea of introducing a greater variety of both vegan and vegetarian dishes, as well as the idea of everyone affiliated with the university doing what they can to reduce their carbon footprints, I do not believe that depriving people of the choice to order meat dishes is the best way to accomplish that. What I would like to recommend we do instead, is advocate for the university to introduce a greater variety of healthy, vegan, and vegetarian dishes to their menus, as well as bringing up the possibility of establishing a few 'Meat free - vegan and vegetarian' establishments across campus, that focus solely on providing both healthy and nutritious vegan and vegetarian foods, that isn't just a sorry excuse of a salad. As for the 'reducing our carbon footprint' idea, I believe that it would be best to try and work with the students union to hold a few charity events throughout the year, whether it is group walking, litter picking, bake sales etc so that we can raise money for ethical charities that align with the universities core values. If anyone has any opinions to voice about my comment, whether that is support, criticism, or you'd just like to add to it, please feel free to do so, I am always more than happy to have a civil conversation with others, as that is what I believe to be the best way to improve our university, not just for ourselves, but for everyone.
