Update from the SU: Our SU Equity Officer raised your suggestion with the Head of Student Services. Student Services currently deliver training to staff to ensure they can effectively support veterans on campus. They also confirmed that they are actively supporting a student veteran at present, using this training to guide the staff working closely with them.

Big Idea: "OpCourage Awareness for All – Supporting Veterans on Campus"

To create a more inclusive and supportive environment for veteran students and staff, I propose making OpCourage (Veterans' Mental Health) Awareness Training available to all university and Students' Union staff. This initiative will:

Enhance Understanding – Equip staff with knowledge about the unique mental health challenges veterans may face.

Improve Support – Enable staff to signpost students and colleagues to appropriate services confidently.

Foster an Inclusive Community – Ensure veterans feel recognised, understood, and supported within the university.

This initiative aligns with the university’s commitment to mental health awareness, inclusivity, and student success, ensuring that veterans receive the understanding and support they deserve.
