Reponse from the Students' Union
The SU President has confirmed that the first Quiet Graduation event is currently planned to take place at Heritage Quay. The event will include photography, gowning, the ceremony itself, and a reception. The total number of ceremonies has not yet been finalised and will depend on the response to the taster information, which is expected to be released in April. However, the progress so far is very positive. With this in mind, we have officially closed the loop on this idea and marked it as accomplished. The SU President will continue to monitor its development, but everything is looking promising. If you have any questions or would like further details, please feel free to reach out.
My big idea is to propose a Quiet Graduation to make our graduation ceremony accessible for all students, including those who are neurodiverse. Many students find traditional graduation ceremonies overwhelming due to loud music, sudden applause, and bright lights, which can cause significant anxiety and sensory overload. By introducing a separate, smaller ceremony with softer lighting, reduced noise, and a more intimate atmosphere, we can ensure that every student has the chance to truly celebrate their accomplishments in a way that works for them. This isn't just about a few students; it's about building a more inclusive and compassionate university community that values the well-being of all its members. Please vote for this idea to help us create a kinder, more accessible graduation for everyone.
