Graduation is one of the most important milestones in a student’s life. After years of hard work, sacrifices, financial commitments and dedication, students deserve a graduation ceremony that truly reflects the significance of their achievements.

We are calling on the University of Huddersfield to reconsider holding graduation ceremonies in the Oastler Building and instead return them to St Paul’s Hall, the historic former church on campus.

While the Oastler Building serves an important academic purpose, we believe it lacks the traditional elegance, character and atmosphere that students associate with such a significant occasion.

St Paul’s Hall, on the other hand, offers a beautiful historic setting that creates a greater sense of celebration, pride and achievement. It has previously been used for graduation ceremonies, making it an important part of the university’s history and traditions.

Graduation is more than simply walking across a stage and receiving recognition for a degree. It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many students, as well as a proud moment for the families and loved ones who have supported them throughout their academic journey.

The venue plays an important role in creating that experience. Students deserve to celebrate in a setting that feels prestigious, memorable and worthy of their accomplishments, with beautiful surroundings for graduation photographs and memories that will last a lifetime.
